Fly-fishing in Proserpine Lake, Queensland with Bryn and our guide John

An opportunity arose to Fly Fish for Permit in May with John Haenke and Bryn Carman from Tasmania in Queensland after our New Zealand trip had to be deferred a second time in February because of Corona Virus Restrictions!

Our 6 day trip to Proserpine was highlighted by two of us catching 9 Barra in two days, 8 over 1 metre! The weather was unseasonal for most of the time with strong winds and rain making sight fishing for Permit near impossible!

We then travelled onto Cardwell and stayed on a Marina Complex developed by the late Keith Williams who came a cropper when cyclone Yasi hit Hinchinbrook in 2011 destroying most of the Marina and washing yachts off their pontoons into the Bay!

Fly fishing the mangroves around Hinchinbrook Island for Barra also proved a disaster after the outstanding fishing in previous years which Jon Snell, our seasoned guide, attributed to the orange moon eclipse causing the Barra to go on a hunger strike for 6 days!

But that’s Fishing!
